help £1000 bank charges on account never used

Options
yesterday i receive a letter from a fianace company saying they had bought my debt of £1016 from tsb bank, when i phoned to enquire they said it was from an account i had 10 years ago, as far as i can remember i never used this account, had no overdraft on it or switch card, i have never recieved any correspondece from the bank to say i was due any money, the bank wont deal with my enquiry as its been bought by a fiance company. they have put an enquiry on it, but im worried that if it is due to charges, i would be liabil to pay it back.
anyone with any advice PLEASE

If you haven't acknowledged the debt then if its over 6 years I think it becomes statute barred so you are not liable for anything..

I'll see if I can find a letter to send for you.

There's a template letter at the end of this if you think it applies to you?

thank you so much, just phoned the fianace company to see what was happening, the stated it was an account from 12 years ago, i then told them that i beleive i was not liable for the debt as it is over 6 years old that it is statute barred, she said this is correct, but i SHOULD still make payment, i asked if i did not make payment, could it procced to court, she said it would not. (thats all i needed to know) she said they'll be in touch.

Again thank you, its a weight off my mind :T

No problem, glad to have helped :)

If you have any more problems with the finance company/DCA it might be worth posting on the debt free wannabee board as there are lots of people there who've had dealing with these sort of companies!
