Start rite do have better width fittings bu DD refused to wear Start rite shoes at 5. Only 1 style (Mary Jane) available in just 2 colours in C fitting, black or navy, fitted her foot and she was fed up with having the same shoes. I used to buy the nice colourful continential shoes for her but now age 10 she wants the "heavy clompy look"

Hi Poppy,
Clarks do make D fitting girls shoes. Although they are very limited there are some available. There are set stockists on each of the companys 'areas' that stock them. This is decided by H.O. by who sells the most E fittings or something along those lines I imagine. If your local Clarks store doesn't stock them they should be able to try and order some in for you.
HTHSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

Thats useful to know. Twice a few years ago they offered to order shoes for me in D fittings. I got quite excited at selecting a few styles for her to try. After a week they admitted they couldn't actually locate the shoes in the required style. Perhaps if I get in earlier at the start of the season we might stand a chance.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

The problems with narrower fittings reminds me of the hassle I had shopping for shoes when I was a kid, I hated it. I would choose something I liked, get measured, then get told they didn't make it in a G fitting. Finally my mum learned to avoid disappointment by not letting me choose anything, just tell them to bring out what they had in my size. Invariably it would be something ugly and clumpy in brown. Often they didn't even have that in stock and we'd have to visit 2-3 branches just to find one pair of shoes in a G fitting.
Luckily my son's wide feet are only a F or G, and I believe that the range of G fittings has improved. Nowadays they claim to offer an H fitting, I know because I've seen cross mums and upset children being told "oh, but there's no call for H fittings!" Deja Vu
Clarks boast about their fabulous fitting machines and highly trained staff (hahaha) yet they don't stock the shoes! Methinks a bit of consumer power is called for. They won't bother changing their practices till parents complain.
Sorry, I'll stop ranting now0
