I've just sold my car and need to get a new one, but because of fuel prices and other Motoring Cost I decided to take a hard look into everything. Well was I surprised. Car Tax its going up. But did you know its all to do with CO2 emissions, some say Yes, some say No. But did you know a Car same Make and Model with a similar Engin one Diesel the other Petrol, the Petrol one has a far Higher CO2 emissions than the Diesel so is going to cost a lot more on Road Tax and the Petrol Car is much worse on the Environment.
By using the Make Model similar Engin again Diesel Car will do a lot better MPG as well.
Now i've also found out Car Manufactures are bring out New Diesels because they Know they are better for the Environment and better on MPG and Tax wich is better for us the People saves you Money.
So you have a Diesel Car better for the Environment better for the People but then we have the Cost of Fuel.
Diesel is far more Expensive than Petrol this i think is a Con.
A Fuel better for the Environment better for Car Tax and better MPG better for us the People i say again.
WHY DOES IT COST MORE
I'll tell you why because more Diesel is used that is the only reason so the Government can get Money from the Diesel so more money from us the People.

Did you know, that Diesel costs more than Petrol in the US? And it's actually caused by the rising cost of Crude Oil and demand that has increased the cost of Diesel?0
-
Diesel doesn't cost more. Per litre, yes, but the cost per mile travelled is less.0

Absolutely, and diesel costs more due to supply and demand. 60% of cars sold in Europe are now diesels. 10% of crude oil gets refined into what diesel fuel is made from, 19.6% is gasoline / petrol. Easy to see where the problem is.
Pence per mile on fuel is only one factor in the total cost of using a car though, sometimes a petrol car is still the cheaper option depending on your mileage and how quick you want your car to be.0 -
OP, if you ever make another post on here, try turning down the point size and clicking off the bold. It doesn't endear you to people.0

Yes, Diesel is better for CO2 emissions but is worse for particulate and NOx emissions so over all I'd say there is little difference between petrol and diesel environmentally.
As for the price of Diesel, its purely down to the fact that there is a shortage of diesel in Europe due to the increasing popularity of diesel cars. I expect the difference in price to get worse before it gets better.0 -
I read somewhere that the crude oil refined to make diesel is the same oil that is used for heating oil. This makes it more expensive in the colder months due to demand from refiners, therefore the price differential should narrow in the next couple of months, but then rise again during the autumn.

Is there a shortage in the US? as the difference over there is even greater than here0 -
Petrol sales totaled 18.072mn tonnes by year-end 2007 - a decline of 72,000 tonnes on year earlier levels. Petrol sales in 2007 were 17.29% below decade earlier levels whilst diesel sales in 2007 rose strongly, reaching 21.015mn tonnes with a gain of 869,000 tonnes on the year. This level is 38.77% higher than a decade ago, illustrating how strong the move to diesel has become.
