I have to cash a cheque as quick as I can. My mother in law has told me that when i pay it in if i ask for a "special", they will charge me £10 but the cheque will be cleared within 24 hours.
She banks with Woolwich/Barclays and im with HSBC.
Before I look stupid in the bank, could someone tell me if this is true or not?
Thanks!

No it's not true. You will know whether the cheque is going to be paid or not but you will still have to wait for it to clear.

Not true. You cannot ask or pay HSBC or any other banks/bs to expedite the cheque clearing process.
If you desperately need to cash the cheque then you may have to resort to the service of Money Shop or Cash Converter. They will be able to cash the cheque for you on the spot provided they can verify your address and ID. These companies charge very high commission at about £5-10 flat-fee + 2-5% of cheque value.
Wait for the cheque to clear if you can.

Yes it is true.
I have used this service before. Ask for a special presentation.
They contact the bank of the person issuing the funds, and make the funds avaliable to you within 24 hours. Although this is not a guarenteed service, and they will tell you that they rely on the Postal Service.0
