Not Wireless But Still C**p Connection

Fed up with my wireless set up I decided to buy 2 cat5 cables and connect direct to the router (DG834g).
The connection is still rubbish, in fact I swear it's actually worse.
Have I done something wrong? Do I need to change any settings on the router.
It's connected to my pc and the ps3, browsing on the pc seems slower and the ps3 is jumpy during gameplay. Also at the end of an online game you get to see everyones connection strength on the scoreboard, mine shows 3 out of 4 bars.
The cables I used are Belkin Cat5e Snagless UTP Patch Cable (Grey) 30m
I'm really annoyed I spent all that time cable clipping 50 odd metres of it just to get the same (if not worse) result.
Another thing, now that I'm no longer wireless should I change my router back to WPA from WEP for more security?
Thanks
Mike

Log into your router and post your full stats?
Who is your ISP?
Do a speed test here and insert the result link into your reply post.
There is nothing wrong with the cables that you have bought.
Yes you should change your wireless encryption back to WPA as WEP is relatively insecure. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Probably a stupid question but have you tried turning the Wireless off at your router?
I only ask 'cos I was wondering is you were really connecting via your ethernet. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

are the above settings wrong? Do you need to see more stats?

Get your full router stats here.
If you had posted the speedtest result link in your post it gives more info. As penryhn said, were/are you definitely connected via Ethernet and not wireless? Did you disable the wireless access point? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
If you're not using the wireless any more I'd turn it off completely, just for security's sake more than anything else.
I'd also do a pile of pings and traceroutes to see if there's packet loss or anything. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
