Automatic Car

Taking refersher lessons and now looking at getting a car...finally! I now have the confidence to do this and am very excited.

Looking to spend up to £6K for a small car, something like a Clio / 206 / Polo etc...what do people recommend?

Buy a manual as you will have a much, much wider choice of examples because hardly anyone buys small automatics.

I presume that is what the title of your thread means.

Are you actually going to buy one this time?;)

I have a tritonic ( ithink thats what its called ) Automatic 107, really nippy car, cheap insurance and tax is £30 for a whole year.

I am having refersher lessons in a semi-automatic.

What is a tritonic?

Due to circumstances, I am staying home but looking to get a car, definitely this time! I dont want a manual, I dont like them and prefer driving automatics.

its a auntomatic, but u can change the gears manually too, no clutch pedal tho

i'm going for a year old micra (automatic). they seem relatively plentiful and are nice to drive.

i would stay clear of clutchless manuals (or mmts) even though they are much cheaper than an automatic and problably get better mileage- once bitten twice shy for me as i had a bad experience.

This will be a broad ansswer coz everyone has different opinions on what are the best cars

Japanese cars have a, deserved in my opinion, reputation for extreme reliability.

There's nothing wrong with small automatics its just that there are fewer to choose from.

With a budget of £6k you are going to be buying something quite new anyway so the quality of the vehicle should be OK when bought. if you are planning to keep it some time buy Japanese for the additional peace of mind. The Nissan Micra seems to be well thought of.

My sister has a Corsa Auto which seems a nippy thing. I think the word is "Tiptronic"
