Miraflex memory foam mattresses any good?

https://www.miraflex.co.uk

I need to buy a king-size memory foam mattress, and the miraflex one has been mentioned a few times by Ted Hutchinson on various threads, but are they any good? the one person that mentioned use of them on here said that the mattress was pretty hard; when I emailed the company they said that the mattress was a 'medium'?

also the website advertises as 10cm viscose foam, but in their email they say it's only 5cm VF with 12 cm reflex foam - is this good/bad/neither? sadly, i'm not an orthopaedic chemical engineer!

please, if anyone out there has bought one of these then could you drop a quick message here to say whether they are any good... the prices for one of these mattresses look unbeatable, but the proof is in the use

thanks again

valmiki

the email I received

"The mattress is not too soft and not too hard it is in between both which is
medium. The mattress consists of 5cm of visco elastic memory foam and 12cm
of reflex foam altogether being 17cm deep. The warranty is 5 years. We offer
free delivery in England, Scotland and Wales"

We just bought IKEAs own version of this mattress for £200 king size, best matress ive ever slept on, weird as well, it does mold your body, but support it as well, and if you've got big boobies it leaves a inprint :rotfl:
    But bounces baack again!!!
Ive had Sealy and Relyon Matts, and this is def the best, it does seem firm at first, but I dont know, just moulds and hugs you, realy comfy, bloody great, no backache for the first time in ages!!!
    Hope this helps
Oh and IKEAs come with a 25 year garenttee :T

    Hi Faith

after a couple of phone calls I decided to take the plunge and buy one, £180 for a kingsize?! I also had a chat with them before I bought, and the density of the foam is 60kg/m2 for the 5cm memory foam and 40kg/m2 for the 12cm of reflex foam. I then did a search on 'foam memory density' on google and decided that most decent memory foam mattresses have a similar or even less density.

I would have bought an Ikea one, if I had one of their beds as well (damned euro sizes)! as it is, I should be getting the Miraflex one in a couple of days so I'll post back on impressions

    OK

received yesterday, wife said that's a kingsize?! it was vacuum-packed and rolled into a plastic cover. Once opened on the bed, the mattress slowly expanded into a decent shape.

    a. doesn't look like it is 17cm thick, though I haven't measured it, and it may yet will fill out over time

    b. couldn't notice a difference between a summer side and a (woollen) winter side, they both looked the same, and felt the same.

    c. funny plasticcy smell, though this goes with the territory and should fade after a couple of days

    d. slept on it last night and was brilliant. just as a memory foam should behave. hope it lasts over time (they do provide a 5 year warranty but there is no sign of what it covers).

so, for £180 (and that includes P&P) an absolute bargain. just wish they were a little more honest in their advertising.
  • I too took the plunge on a Miraflex king size. I had my reservations about them being too cheap and too hard or specifically for back pain sufferers so I tried to find as much info as I could.

Interestingly enough Miraflex are now selling on ebay too but have yet to get any feedback rating as they have just started.

I asked about the winter/summer side and they said there was now no call for the different sides so the visco elastic memory foam is only on one side (5cm thick not 10 as the website mentions).

I got mine yesterday (ordered on Friday delivered on Monday) and it was good fun to see it expand.

After that I did have trouble working out which side actually had the memorry foam on as both seemed similar to me. (Eventually emailed them to make sure - bottom is the side with the label on it as expected).

There was a printed A4 sheet inside that gave the measurments (16 cm deep -not 17 as website says) and also in big letters - '5 year guarantee' - I could have done that on my printer !

I emailed again to ask what the guarantee covered - they said " cover faulty workmanship and if the foam is damaged in the 5years meaning if it shrinks we will replace your mattress".

Also noticed the plasticy smell but it fades quickly.

Time for bed.........initially it did feel a bit odd and you do slowly sink in a bit but at all times there is sufficient support without it being too firm or too soft. I got my wife to bounce up and down a bit (next to me not on me !) and I also did my rolling whale maneouvr and there was very little transfer of motion in the mattress. I slept very well as it gently yet firnly hugged my 15 stone frame.

Its probably a bit earlier to give a conclusive opinion but thus far I am very happy with the purchase. Its certainly not too firm and offers good support as well as the memory foam effect so all in all I can't fault it.

I'll post back if this changes.

    Thanks,
    Martin

I was looking for a new mattress and thought i might give this a go based on the comments here.

I to saw them on ebay and being a keen money saver, bid on one and won it at a slightly lower price than advertised on their www site. :D

The advertisment stated "free next day delivery" and they also gave an option to pay direct by credit card over the phone rather than paypal so i duly phoned them to pay.

They then tell me that they have no stock and will not have any for 2 to 3 weeks

So they start their Ebay business making delivery promises they cannot keep......not a good start, i will give neg feedback and expect to receive the same through no fault of my own.

The product may be ok, i will never find out but one thing is for sure, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

Well there is no way you'd leave an imprint in the Miraflex mattress. I'd call it the 'memory foam mattress with amnesia'. Ok, it will return to it's original shape but it's damn difficult to force it away from that (original) state!

After reading Faith's report I'd go for the IKEA one personally. It sounds closer to what I think a memory mattress should be.
  • Each to his/her own opinion but unless we have a different product I have only good things to say about my Miraflex mattress. The previous postings about it being too hard were what made me sceptical in the first place and now I'm glad I disregarded them and bought it.

I find there to be the perfect balance between support/firmness/softness. Of course this is just my preference and may differ from other peoples.

To go with my new mattress I also just got off ebay 2 perflex visco elastic foam pillows which once again are superb. For the first time I can sleep with one pillow rather than two.

One point on the previous post about Ebay and not getting a delivery from Miraflex for a couple of weeks....I agree that its not good that they cannot fulfill their promise, perhaps this is because more stock was bought from their website rather than on ebay?? I would think twice about leaving negative feedback if you intend not to continue with the purchase as I would imagine you have more to lose than them. They currently have a zero rating so it would be very easy for them to reregister with a new id and start again - maybe not so for you?

Hmmmmm, they are however in breach of contract. I have advised them to put something in their future ads for people to phone them and check stock before ordering.

It is a simple mistake to make if you have not sold on ebay before so after some consideration i will most likely leave it alone providing they dont do something daft and lodge a non paying bidder or whatever on my account, although that is relatively new anyway so its not a problem for me.

And that of course is where the whole feedback system falls apart but thats something for another part of this forum!
  • I got a Miraflex kingsize memory foam mattress on 21st. December 2005. They had previously been out of stock, but had emailed me to say their new stock (new specifications) was now in.

Miraflex told me by email on 31st October as follows:

"At the moment we are currently out of stock and we have changed our product. We are now manufacturing visco elastic mattress with 5cm of memory and 15cm reflex foam with a removable washable zip cover. We are still in the process of manufacturing this item but we are doing tests before we launch this new product. Our previous mattress thickness was altogether 17cm deep and I did not have any complaints."

I was impressed by the extra thickness and removable cover and promptly ordered. As a disabled person, I also obtained VAT exemption.

On arrival it was obvious that this mattress was not 20cm thick (more like 16 or 17cm) and had no removable cover. I emailed Miraflex and told them the mattress differed from the description emailed to me and asked if they had sent me one of the older ones. The reply I got simply said: "We are still waiting for the zip covers to be made and it could take weeks until they are launched."

I have sent four emails since, asking why the mattress differs and if it is an older version. All my emails have been ignored. The mattress seems quite good, although not as described. Just as well considering Miraflex's deplorable after-sales attitude.
