Equifax credit gold?

I have, following the recommendation from this site, applied for my free 30-day trial with Equifax and have read my report today. It is a little confusing (to say the least) but I can't seem to find my actual credit score on it anywhere.

Have I chosen the wrong thing? I need to find out what our credit rating is as we need to move into rented accommodation soon and I have read that agencies will do a credit search before letting you rent a house through them.

I thought this report was all-singing, all-dancing..... am I being a divvy?

PS. I have set a reminder to cancel before the 30 days expire ;)

The trial only lets you get to see what is on your report but if you want to see your actual score you need to pay £5.99

It basically rates you from 0 - 1000 and says if it is good, poor or average.

Not really worth it but as I started checking mine every 4 months i continue to do so out of noseyness.

I didn't cancel my subscription as I like to keep tabs on what is showing up and when things get deleted

If I do pay for a search, will this go against me? I have heard that the more searches you do, the worse it reflects on your score?

  • Hi Suzysu, You looking up your own file is not seen by others, it is there so that you can see when you looked, and if you dont recognise a date it shows you having looked then someone else has your details

Credit score is not really worth the money as different lenders have their own criteria. If you want an idea then use the smartsearch on moneysupermarket, its free:D

  • I did a free trial a year or so ago and I called them up to cancel, they are OK you just have to be firm with them

The number is on their website and on anything they send you

I use checkmyfile.com which I signed up to through Quidco and that checks all 3 credit agencies. Very handy only did it to see what showed up for the mortgage application form but I do like to keep an eye on it now.
