hi, read a post recently about a couple being woken up in the early hours of the morning by someone entering their room with a key. When we are staying in hotel/apartment either abroad or in uk we ALWAYS put a chair up against the door before we go to bed so that if anyone does try to open our door we'll hear them. Another tip - take old tesco/matalan card and use it in the light slot before you go out so that you can leave your lights on whilst your out.
hope this is of use. :hello:

Not being funny but why would you want to leave the lights on? Planet not dying quick enough?0

i also don't think i've stopped anywhere that didn't have an internal deadlock0

Mmmm - why would you want to leave the lights on? It also keeps the AC on in hot countries - I can't think of a single valid reason why i'd want to do this, maybe i'm missing something but I doubt it.
And chair against the door? You're definitely staying in the wrong country / hotels. If I had to be that careful / nervous before going to sleep, i'd need a holiday afterwards for my nerves to recover from it.0 -
We always holiday in the Dominican Republic and absolutely love it there and feel very safe at all times. However, regarding leaving an old card in the room to keep the AC running all day - I find that to be a real waste of resources. However, last year when we left the hotel room in the morning, we would switch everything off religiously. When the maid came in to clean, she would shut the curtains, switch every light on in the place and crank up the air con. Ridiculous. We started to make a habit of going back to the room around midday and switching it all off again.0

I've had that happen once, the hotel reception messed up and someone tried to enter our room at 1am.baby_bronagh wrote: »hi, read a post recently about a couple being woken up in the early hours of the morning by someone entering their room with a key. When we are staying in hotel/apartment either abroad or in uk we ALWAYS put a chair up against the door before we go to bed so that if anyone does try to open our door we'll hear them. Thankfully, my spidey senses has made me put the chain on and push a sofa against the door. This was not a nice hotel. Great breakfast though!
Tip - don't stay in places cheap enough that you feel you should do this.0
