How to re-pot an orchid?

Hi there,
We were given an orchid at the weekend, which is currently flowering. It looks lovely, but we need to find a nicer pot (rather than the plastic see-through one that it came in). However, it looks like it is currently potted in it's own roots and bark. Can I re-pot it in compost? How often does it need watering?
Thanks very much
Vicky

The stuff in which it is currently potted in which looks like bark chips is the correct compost for orchids. Whatever you do , do not repot using normal compost. You have to buy orchid compost from somewhere like Homebase. Its a bit expensive though.
You just re pot as you will with an normal plant. The only difference is the compost you have to use.0
