We are "usually" really good at balancing our accounts and credit cards etc and have not incurred any charges for ages... in fact i cant remember ever having to .... However.
Before a recent holiday we made amistake and wrote a cheque out for a large amount from the wrong account which meant while we where away we went overdrawn as direct debits kicked in... then the payment of our mortgage was refused. Luckily we are with the One account there and they simply re try 10 days later at no cost... thats the good bit. And yes we are going to transfer all monies into that account soon.
The Abbey, who this account is with, have hit us for £180 in charges for being O/D for 8 days in which time each D/D paid or declined was charged at £35 each!! This seems extortionate to me. And yes i realise it was our mess up but £180!!
Whats the best approach to try and get them to cut us some slack.
Never been in this position before..... I assume as we are not paying fee's regularly or charges each month, us saying we will take our custom elsewhere wont bother them at all?
Frustrated and out of pocket!!

Take it on the chin this time, and read their T&C's next time.Martin Lewis is

take it on the chin my bottom! i bank with the abbey and they are always refunding bank charges, i havent paid one yet. mine is slightly different in that i usually pay the money in the day i go over then ring to tell them, but sometimes i have paid in too late but they reverse charge and give me the speil about making sure enough in there 24 hours b4!
anyway, getting to the point, ring the abbey and explain. they will prolly offer to refund some of them, accept as much as you can, then threaten them with legal action if they dont refund the rest after they have credited your account. you should be able to get at least half of them back, they normally give you a goodwill gesture if you havent had any refunded recently.0 -

????????
If i was going to do that i would not have posted now would I! You obviously have more money to give away than me! Not quite the reply i was looking for
I tried ringing them twice yesterday... held on... and on... and on... gave up. Will try again today. Hopefully they will see we where abroad at the time and see we have had a well managed account previously and offer us some rebate.I save so I can spend.0 -
