Not informed of price increase (Atlantic) can I complain?

Received my first bill from Atlantic today for the period from 7 Feb to 14 April. From 7 Feb to 31 Mar I am paying the price which was stated on the contract I signed.

I know it was all over the news that they were putting there prices up from 1 April but shouldn't they have sent me something to notify me what the new prices are?

  • I'm not sure of the legality of the "notification" - many contracts (again, not sure how it is with utility companies) state that they can inform you of rates by "an advert in national and local newspapers to include xxx & yyy papers"

perhaps someone will clarify if this method is / can be employed?

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

They have several weeks to formally inform you after the date of the increase.

This can work to your advantage as if they inform you on, say, 01 May, you can state you wish to leave and you will revert to the old pre-increase price.

As above, they have up to 65 days to inform you of a rise, and then you can decide if you want to switch or not. You need to inform them this is why you are leaving - they won't hold your prices automatically.
