Zanussi washing machine error code E20

Can anyone help?
My Zanussi washing machine (FJS 1425W) is just over 6 years old and is now showing error code E20. As the water is not emptying from the machine I assume it's something to do with the pump.
Is it possible to do a diy replacement of the pump on this model as I can't really afford to get the repair man out?
Thank you.

E20 is a draining error but I don't know enough about that series to answer in any more depth.

Best bet is to ask the guys on UK Whitegoods (https://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk) as there will be one of the engineers on there does know.

  • Thanks for the replies.

I'd already looked at those sites millie but there was only one mention of error code E20 and this was on a different model. This person had sorted it out themselves which is what prompted me to ask on here.

kwatt - I'd searched the whitegoodsd site but thought it was similar to the others mentioned. I didn't realise that engineers answered the queries. I'll go and look at it now.
  • Hi Pixiechick,

i dont have the same washer as you but had the same problem with my whirlpool, it was easily solved by emptying your pump underneath your machine, (pumps are usually the same on all machines i think) i found 2 socks, a bra wire, a red pen and 11p!

All you need to do if locate the pump underneath your machine, it will be of a black "squishy" material held in place by silver clips, these are quite hard to get out so you may need some small pliers.

Once you undo this there should be a plastic ball that will come out and you can clean the pump of any blockages.

can be a little fiddly putting the clips back in thats where the pliers come in.

    two things to remember:

Empty as much resting water from the drum as possible before you do this and dont lay your machine fully on its back, if you can get some one to lower it and hold it while you get under.

As i said ive not got the same machine, but this works for me!

I get this error code on my Zanussi occasionally, and I clear it by cleaning out the fluff filter on the front of the machine! (Make sure you have a container under it to catch the water that will no doubt pour out first!)

hi, just read your post and it is DEFINITELY a draining error - you need to take the filter out, empty it of all lint and replace it. It may have water trapped in already, so get a cloth ready to soak up excess liquid! Also, make sure when you put it back in you have tightened it enough to avoid leaking but not too much that you cannot get it back out. DON'T call for a service - they will not tell you, but E20 codes are NOT covered and they will charge you for the call out!

Thanks for all the replies. I haven't replied sooner because my computer was playing up.

TheRider - I may be blonde and female but I did check the filter first!! Though I suppose it's best to check just in case.

Thanks kwatt. I looked on the whitegoods website and ordered a new pump from there. It was only £25 including p&p and arrived the following day. My friend fitted it, which he said was quite simple. BUT when we switched the machine on it came up with error code E90. We followed advice from the whitegoods site and left it for a day or so in case the electronics had got wet. It's now working perfectly - touch wood!

    Thanks everyone.
