Phew, im not my own thinking it stinks then guys! Good. :)

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

I am astounded that someone who is in receipt of benefits has the ordasity to come on here and admit they have been winning £3000+ on gambling. I earn £3000 every 3 months with NO STATE HELP whatsoever. If you are earning an equivelant anything like a normal wage from any means, you should declare it, not continue to accept the benefits. Its just plain wrong.
I am sorry if anyone thinks this is flaming of any sort but nobody should condone this sort of behaviour.

    There, rant over.

I agree entirely and was not condoning what OP was doing.

Some rather harsh replies here, the OP was only asking for advice on how best to keep Credit Limits high.

To be making £3k a month from gambling, suggests that the OP does have a profession - a "professional gambler".

To make that sort of money takes time to study form and understand the background of the bets they are making, it would become a full time job in itself.

I'm not sure about the legalities of claiming benefits when earning money from gambling, although I can see that many people have a moral viewpoint on this.

Gambling earnings are tax free and are not taxable as income. Operating a bookies or other gambling body is however classed as operating a business and subject to tax at normal rates. You think punters should pay tax on their winnings? Would they then be entitled to tax relief on their losses?

Whether you think it's right or wrong, it's the tax law.

If you think it's unfair, read up on "matched betting" a relatively risk-free way of making money, like stoozing, that so long as you understand the rules and stick to them, is guaranteed to bring you in some cash from exploiting an arithmetic oddity.

    Flames suitably extinguished.

I have no objection to someone supplementing their benefits and if they wish to pay this dangerous game then so be it. However what really gets me is when the losses mount up and they decide to go bankrupt. If you are on benefits you have nothing to lose. No doubt OP will appear in a few months complaining it was the credit card companys fault because they gave that person large credit limits.

Not dangerous if you don't take gambling risks.

For the record, defnitely not condoning somebody sitting on their butt and "sponging" off benefits. As someone brought up with both parents working and having worked my butt off to get where I am today, I'm somewhere right of genghis khan on these things as regards people who simply can't be ars3d to go out and work.

But let's not jump to conclusions too much. Sure the OP's user name is somewhat antagonistic to us tax payers, but wouldn't be the first time that a joke backfired.

If they're dumb enough to complain in a few months time about these irresponsible lenders offering them high credit limits then they'll get no sympathy. To answer their original question, there's no way to avoid the "credit crunch". They'll be scored like everyone else in the credit crunch environment and IMO those at the lowest ends of the income ladder will be crunched harder than those further up the ladder, which I don't think is really a surprise to anyone.

To be fair to the OP he didn't claim he was winning £3000+ if he is matched betting then he may only be getting a couple of percent return on his bets. So it's quite possible he is making less than a couple of hundred pounds from staking £3000.

Shouldn't the OP declare any winnings as income?

  • there are more reasons to being on benefits than laziness
Internet is great when your bed bound

I used to earn 3k a month but due to illness that's all stopped and once you fall off that treadmill it's hard to get back on.....try explaining two 5 month periods of unemployment at interview.....we're not worth the risk
