avg anti virus free addition

Good day all

I hope you can help. I have had the free edition of avg for a few months but yesterday and today it is not updating its update mamager as it says the 'update files are corrupted'.

I have no clue as to whether this is normal unless I upgrade and buy or whether I can solve this.

Technical wizardry is not my thing so please help but please be gentle - not too many long words!!!

Cheers

Right click the AVG four colour square icon near the clock and try "check for updates".

Worse comes to the worse, download the latest full free version from: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/

and then uninstall you current version (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add and Remove programs) , restart the PC then and reinstall the newer downloaded one.

Are you running a firewall? If so did you give AVG permissions on the 15th when new files were downloaded during the update? see here

    thanks Isofa

I had done the trying to update and it did try just kept failing due to the 'files are corrupted' thing.

I just wasn't sure if it was a ploy that always happened with AVG in order to get us to upgrade.

I am now downloading the latest and shall do as you suggest and uninstall the current one.

    Thanks for your rapid response

I think this place is fab.:T

No, should be fine to uninstall and reinstall. It was the fact that you said a couple of days ago, which was when some new files were downloaded in the update that need firewall permission.

I've installed AVG on 3 different PC's and ran into problems on all 3. I've been using Avast on these PC's for the last year and had no problems at all.
