Music transmission from PC ???

I am aware of an electronic device used to listen to Radio Stations via your PC. The sound is transferred via your house Wi-fi system.

a- What are they called?
b- Which is best value/quality/price

Many thanks

Some of the best known are made by Rokulabs and Slimdevices - the latter IIRC now owned by Logitech.

When I last looked, the Roku devices looked to be the best value, and Slimdevices seemed to be going up-market (e.g. The Transporter, which costs $1400 - but is very well regarded in terms of quality).

Logitech themselves made a low-cost (£80 or thereabouts) device, but it was not considered to be very good (too little buffering).

Simi Devices (Logitech) have introduced a new, lower cost option called the Squeezebox Receiver. It has just been launched and is only available as a package (the Duet) with their wonderful graphics controller which is cureently required for initial setup, but they plan to offer it as a stand alone product (around £100). I have a beta model and it is up to the usual SD standard - excellent.

Actually, the Transporter's $1999 plus tax in the US or £1299 here I'm afraid. Worth it though. There's also the Squeezebox 3 which is their biggest seller, excellent value at £199.

Thanks for the correction - I should have been wearing my glasses! It's a great looking (and sounding, apparently) piece of kit, with simulated VU meters, fully customisable display and a lot of attention to detail, it seems.

I've never listened to any of the Squeezebox products, but my brother in law has a Roku box that's about a year old and it sounds (to me) as good as a CD player when playing 128kb/s or better MP3s.

This item http://www.techfocus.co.uk/iTrip-FM-Transmitters/TFM07.htm can be had on Ebay for as little as £5 inc P&P. I linked one up to a cheap battery eliminator for a relative, works very well. The Linex one I use from my own computer requires just a single usb connection, very convenient. For casual listening (and the garden) these are great and cheap gadgets, after all this is Moneysavingexpert!
