BT Vision advice required

I've been offered a BT Vision box for sale. My question is willl it work without connecting it to a phone line? My idea is to use it as a "standalone PVR" and not use the download options at all. Am i correct??

No, it will not even boot up without a BT Internet connection being connected to it.

The EPG comes through the broadband connection too.

I read that they were going to introduce updated software which would allow you to use it without BT broadband, no date but there may be some hope.

I think they changed their mind.

There is no financial incentive for them to do it
