I live in the south west (Exeter) and the economy 7 tariff is as follows:-
    BST
    11 - 12 AM
    1 - 7

GMT (When the clocks go back on the 30/10/11)
    12 - 1 am
    2 - 8

I have established these times today from EDF helpline. A little bit naughty of them really, as most people would pop their night storage heaters on and go to bed, but once you have done that - you are paying 'daytime' rate for an hour! What can we do though? nothing, just bite the bullet if we want to stay warm...

Sorry. Are you saying that the economy 7 times aren't adjusted for UK clock time change?

Correctly installed storage heaters should come on when the E7 circuit goes live and off when it switches to daytime rate regardless of what time of year it is.
  • If you are on E7 switching on or off is irrelevant unless you are going to Switzerland for three weeks and want to save a few bob, you can not ' self control ' E7. In fact you could switch them on when winter comes, never touch the switch till Easter. Precise [ to the minute .. .. winter & summertime ] is decided by your provider and totally out of your control. Telemetry controls the on / off switch !

If you were mad you could set your alarm for 4am and throw the switch yourself for a half nights charge, but that's why I said mad - all you should do is set the thermostat to 50% of what it was before going to bed and sleep through - you would get the same amount of stored energy.

Yes I know someone out there will have a very old wheel driven system but 99% will be on Telemetry.

EDF will not know the accurate times for your address. You need to talk to your Distribution Company (Western Power Distribution)

If you are on a teleswitch then the times do not change when the clocks change. If correctly installed, all time switches control both the meter registers and the heating circuits so are never out of sync.
