Best Value Used Car For £10,000? Which would you choose?

Hi All,
We're looking to change our car soon for something a little larger and we've been looking at the Nissan Primera 1.8 SVE or a Mondeo Ghia. Ideally we're looking for something on a 04 plate, 54 if possible with a max budget of 10,000 including the trade in of our existing Audi A3.
What would you recommend? Should we be looking at other models that are better value?
Also, I'm no expert when it comes to haggling with a dealer, what should I go in with as a starting price for a car that's on the main dealer forcourt at £9995?
Any thoughts / comments / advice on haggling would be very much appreciated
