ScottishPower – Fixed Prices Till March 2011 – Are You Locked In?

I’m currently with Scottish Power for dual fuel (online Energy Saver 4) and in my area no other offer is materially cheaper other than Npower which I prefer to ignore for the present due to the “sculpting issue”.

I’m interested in the ScottishPower “Fixed Price Energy Offer - NO PRICE RISES UNTIL MARCH 2011” tariff however what I cannot figure out despite having waded through all of the terms and conditions is whether if I sign up for the “Fixed Prices till March 2011” deal am I tied in until 2011 or can I cancel at any time, if for example prices fall?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

  • I didn't "see" any lock-ins when I signed up to it

They did mention that standing charge was slightly haigher than normal "because" of the price fix.

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
  • I'm currently a Scottish Power user for dual fuel. I recently used one of the comparison sites and found that e.on was cheaper in my area, so I used the site to switch.

Yesterday I was called by Scottish Power trying to keep my account and was offered the same rate and direct debit amount I was going to pay to e.on and that it would be fixed for three years. I was specifically told that I wasn't locked in, that I could cancel any time and switch whenever I wanted.

    Hope this helps.

PS: On the basis that fuel prices are unlikely to drop, I thought this was a good deal and decided to stay with them.
  • Hi VioletFlame

Make sure it is in writing that they are offering the same UNIT rates fixed for 3 years (i.e. they are matching the e.on tarrif you were going to move to) and not just agreeing to fix your DD to what you would be paying e.on.

    Hope that makes sense

As a current fixed rate customer i got the offer of this today. I am looking at doing it as 3 years fixed rate has got to be a good idea - I hope. With the way prices rise (Often) and fall (less often) these days you never know!

Anyway, looking at the T&Cs it would seem that as long as you give them at least 28 days notice you are free to change suppliers. Hope that helps.
