Confused foreigner in need to assistance!

Hello,

I have been a resident of the UK for the last 6 years, but have during this time been covered by a comprehensive Scandinavian insurance package. As I have been away for so long, this policy can no longer cover me, and as such, I have been forced to start looking at local UK alternatives.

My previous package was the equivalent of 250 pounds p/a and included home contents (we are renting), Liability, Travel, Accidents and damage, Mugging and neglect. I have not been able to find a competitive quote from a company that provides all this in a package.

In the UK, am I supposed to take out separate insurances for these things? It seems like a lot of paperwork and less efficient for the insurance companies?

However, my basic needs are, to have my belongings covered, to be protected when I travel in case I need medical attention (UK, and abroad including the US), to be protected if someone wants to drag me to court in case of a conflict, and a general protection against accidents such as things breaking in my home and so forth.

Any tips on where to turn to get this cover would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hello Henrik!

To cover your belongings and having them also protected against breakages, you need to take out a Home Contents Insurance including Accidental Damage.

To be covered for medical attention when travelling abroad you will need Travel Insurance .

For medical cover in the UK (if you are not covered by the British National Health Service) you will need to take out Health Insurance.

I'm not sure what you would need to be covered against a court case, although there is a possibility this may be covered on your Home Insurance policy, or maybe even your car Insurance if you have a car. I would ask when you take the policy out.

    Hope this helps!
