Stripping chairs

Options
I want to strip some chairs.

What is the best stripper on the market?

I assume they are all easy to use and I will need goggles, gloves and a mask.

Many thanks again.

  • Hi calleyw,

I'd be very careful what you use especially if the chairs are valuable!

If they are not valuable then I would get a price for stripping them in a caustic bath as this is extremely effective. It costs about £20 to get an internal door stripped up here in Lancashire, so a chair should be much less. Caustic removes all traces of paint but can damage the joints on chairs, so please check with the experts first.

Nitromors is pretty good, but I'd be tempet to try a heat gun first!

    Good luck
  • Nitromors, best remover ever. Wear gloves and goggles, and work with window open

    Weekendwarrior,

The chairs are worth nothing. I just want to strip them so I can re varnish and put new foam pads in and fabric just to look a bit better. As we are rather skint and can't afford to spend a lot of money on new furniture.

Definetley Nitromors, after U have used it, u will need to sand them down with some 80ish grit sandpaper, fill any imperfections with woodfiller, sand again with 100 grit, followed by 120 grit sandpaper...then varnish with polyurathane varnish, rub down with fine sandpaper and varnish top coat!!
In this trusted place U can erase
Every tear that ever rolled down your weary face
All the time U waste in that paper chase
Is time better spent in these arms of mine
