How do I upgrade my XP home with service pack 2 to XP Pro?
I have a copy I want to install but when I insert the disc it says I have a newer version so it will not install.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks Mark

You would have to reformat your hard disk and install from scratch. Why do you want to do this anyway? Is there anything in particular from the XP pro side of things that you need?0

Seconded. Unless you need to connect to a domain or share a folder with more than 5 network users simultaneously, it offers no advantage.0

1st Make sure you backup everything that you need on an external drive or PC, if you want to install XP Pro, put disc in drive, then restart PC it'll take you to set up if the CD-ROM is the 1st point of contact when PC starts in DOS, then you'll have the options of setting up, usually reformatting the current drive and it will install over this.Smoke-Free since 15/11/08

What's the difference between Windows XP Home and Professional editions?
Intended For
Windows XP only The Home and Professional editions of Windows XP are nearly identical; the only differences are additional features found in the Professional edition that most likely won't appeal to home users. The primary differences, aside from the price and the color of the packaging, are as follows: Windows XP Home Edition
- Contains basic support for security among multiple users.
- Built-in support for peer-to-peer networking, but only for up to five computers.
- The backup utlity is not installed by default, but is included on the CD.
- Includes extended support for security between multiple users on the same machine.
- Better support for peer-to-peer networking, plus support for joining a "Windows NT domain."
- The backup utlity is installed by default.
- The Professional edition includes the following components not found in the Home edition:
- Administrative Tools (in the Start Menu and Control Panel)
- Automated System Recovery (ASR)
- Boot Configuration Manager
- DriverQuery
- Group Policy Refresh Utility
- Multi-lingual User Interface (MUI) add-on
- NTFS Encryption Utilitiy
- Offline Files and Folders
- OpenFiles
- Performance Log Manager
- Remote Desktop
- Scheduled Tasks Console
- Security Template Utility
- Taskkill
- Tasklist
- Telnet Administrator
- Provides support for multi-processor systems (2 or 4 CPUs), Dynamic Disks, Fax.

Thanks for the replies I was not sure of the extra features, but I found it when tidying up after removing a desktop computer and wondered what it would give me extra.
I will not bother then and leave it on Home version.
