Just before Christmas, we bought a Panasonic DVD recorder and P. Viera TV. Since then I have recorded quite a few series for someone who has been out of the country. Before I ask the dreaded question, how easy is it to transfer to disc, I need to know about discs.
We have to transfer 12 half hr progs
" " 5 X 1 hr progs
" " 6 X 1 hr progs,
so about 17 hrs in total. Because I've never done this before, I have no idea if this amount will fit onto one disk. Advice please.

Very approx, you can get 2 Hrs of video onto 1 DVD. It's up to you how you record, because usually the DVD recorder has options for different types of recording, EP,XP, etc. My Panny gives you a choice of 5 if I remember . Good luck.0

I don't think 17 hours will fit onto one disc. I think that on the lowest quality you can fit 6 hrs of video onto one disk but I would not recommend this. 2 or 4 hrs per disk would give a better balance. If you wanted the best quality there is a mode for 1 hr per disk.0

My Panasonic DVD recorder has 4 picture quality settings, (select using the REC MODE button), XP 1hr,SP 2hr,LP 4hr, and EP 8hr. The longer the recording time the lower the quality, LP is about the same as VHS.
Assuming you are recording stuff off your Sky + box all you have to do is select the AV2 channel and away you go.
I'd dig out the handbook for the DVD recorder as you need to know about the joys of formatting and finalising disks before you start.
I wouldn't bother with the Copy facility on the Sky + box, you get more control playing back the material manually. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks to each of you. No we don't have sky, just freeview which is inbuilt in both TV & recorder.
As for picture quality, I don't suppose it is all that important and once viewed, they will not be required again. 12 episodes of Island Parish, 5 of Tibet, 6 of Wild at heart. Our daughter has been abroad and she wanted them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
