Home Tutoring Business

I am registered for tax and National Insurance for a very small home tutoring business. Basically I teach on average about 6 hours a week, in my own home.
I need to renew my Home buildings and contents insurance. Should I mention the business? It has never occurred to me in the past. Will it make it a lot more expensive? What are the pros, cons, legalities please?

Yes, you do need to mention this and yes it will be more expensive.
Reason for this is the pupils are coming to your house. If one should trip or slip and attempt to sue you, the insurers will soon rumble the fact you are operating a business.
It would be cheaper if you visited pupils at their homes but then you need to have business use on your motor policy.
If you are teaching children, be aware that some insurers are extremely cautious and will not pick up claims relating to abuse or allegations of abuse. This will be an exclusion within the policy terms. This largely stems from incidents relating to the Catholic church but the exclusion is across the whole education and vulnerable adults care / education sectors.0
