Change Electricity Supply from Business to Domestic?

The flat owners just taken over the management of our block of 6 flats, having purchased the Freehold and the Management rights.
We have asked for the communal electricty supply to be transferred into the name of our very small Company.
The previous Managing Agents had the account with Npower. When I rang to change it over to our name, they said it was a business account and that the charges would be £60 per quarter Standing Charge and 14.5p per unit.
There are only six small lights and 2 three pin sockets on this supply!!
This charge is very disproportionate?
The meter is labelled Landlords Supply.
I've tried some of the 'Switch Over' sites, and the best I have found so far is £25 per quarter Standing Charge and 8.5p per unit (with Scottish Power)
I am trying to find out if it is possible to change from business to domestic tariffs in our circumstances?
I can't seem to find any information on the internet?
Has anyone done this, and if so, how and who with?
Regards,
Gerry

Don't think I can help I'm afraid. I've just had problems of a similar nature...changing business utilities accounts over to domestic.
We are not actually a business, so they did finally agree to change it over, although we will still have to pay business rates up to the change...a matter of up to 25 days apparently!!! Can't think why it should take that long in these days of instant electronic deals.
I did get a bit of a result tho; after a lengthy phone call, they did finally agree to waive the standing charges and the VAT for the changeover time as we are (obviously) not registered for VAT.
If you are also not registered, maybe you could do the same or at least claim it back at end of year? It might help.
I was dealing with British Gas by the way. Not usually the most helpful of people in my experience.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.0 -
Don't know about the business aspect, Gerry, but Ebico is considered the cheapest supplier for low residential users, in that they don't have standing charges, just one low unit price, no discounts . See the Gas and Electric Board.
There is also a current thread by Lordie about business accounts, perhaps not applicable to you but worth reading.0
