Duo Core 2 anything from 1.7GHz and 1GB RAM fine. Find the best spec you can for your budget and buy it would be my advice, even if it is a Dell or Toshiba or Fujitsu. Yikes. :eek:0

There will always be people who have had a problem with a brand and therefore wont recommend it. There are more documented problems with Dells simply because there are far more of them sold, therefore there will be more comparatively more problems.
IF you buy a laptop with Vista, make sure it has at least 2GB of RAM. Also dont be afraid of AMD machines either, though the bigger the TK number the better. I'm running a TK57, but a TK60 is a very very nice machine.
Checkout www.dmxdimension.com for a list of the current dell deals, you will be stunned at what can be bought for £400 or even £350 if you look at the Dell Vostro 1000 or similar. Also checkout www.hotukdeals.com for the ad hoc dell deals that spring up for short times - use the search facility on the RHS to find Dell0 -
Just buy a cheap Dell, they are gud valu, you'll be very happy wiv it. The worst new laptop you can find can do email and music easily, 1GB is plenty, 2GB is nice not essential (but you can always upgrade later).
PS try firefox, it has a nice built-in spell checker.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
thanx guys. thats what i need just good old fashioned advice which i can understand! i thought of dell instantly, cos as i said i have a desktop & had no probs ( hope that last statement doesnt bite me on the bum now! lol) so prob have a look again at them. i think i saw 1 i liked at around £389 so just under budget, i know its got 2gb of ram so i guess that is what seems the most important thing. wanted a win xp home ed but no joy so vista it has to be! i am guessing everything will connect up as 1 xp the other vista? thanx again & if nothing changes will be ordering a dell 2morra!0

www.dmxdimension.com, vostro 1000, the TK60 @ £351 delivered. :beer:0 -
You just missed an amazing Vostro 1400 deal but now discontinued. May be worth keeping your eye out for the nect deal to come along...?
One note about the RAM is that you may pay more for a 2gb machine than if you pay for a 1GB machine then buy two 1gb memory modules to replace the two 512mb modules inside.. Did that make sense?
Also my plan with this Vostro (hopefully getting soon!!) is to get with Vista Business and request the XP downgrade which I will be entitled too. So Vista business is something to lookout for if you want XP and a very quick machine
