Good afternoon everyone. I have found at the back of the cupboard a big jar of "Blackstrap Molasses", why I bought this I will never know as I don't even know what to do with it! Has anyone got any ideas please? If there are any cake recipes they would have to be gluten/wheat free.................. but can it be used for anything other than cakes? I am on a diet after all

You can use it in anything where you'd normally use black treacle, I think it's a little bit 'stronger' but not much. I'd use it in things like gingerbread etc, but it's not really a dieter's food lol, far too sugary. The only think I can think of that's gluten free and would use a lot of it would be something like treacle toffee ...0

You could make some sort of a marinade for meat out of it, maybe for a BBQ?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0

i used to use it to replace half of the syrup in flapjacks
a spoonful is, weirdly enough, quite good in chilli.
apart from that no ideaits got lots of iron in it though so good for veggies/vegans.

I use it to make molasses ice cream. Put one big tablespoon in 500ml of double cream and churn up in ice cream maker. You can add raisins as well if you wish.0

Hi
I have purchased a jar of molasses in error where black treacle was called for thinking they were the same thing. apparently not. So, what do I do with said jar of molasses please?
I know you lot will be able to help me out! All ideas very gratefully received!

Hi clara,
There's an earlier thread with some ideas that should help so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.
