How Can I Find My Electricity Supplier

I recently moved into a new flat. The problem is it was brought as a repossession and so the details of electricity and water suppliers were not passed onto me. So far I have been waiting for a bill to arrive so I can contact the supplier but this has not yet happened and I have been sitting tight for a few months now...

Does anyone know of a way to find out who my supplier is and get in touch with them??? I found that there are several main suppliers for the uk then companies sell the electricity onto you but not quiet worked out how to find who my supplier is?

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!

Andy

  • I believe you can find out by provideing your meter number (MPAN) to a company but unfortunately I can't recall the name. Do a quick search on this forum for MPAN as I think one of the threads will be about it.

A second thought, not sure if it will work though, phone one of the major suppliers at random with a "query about your account" - when the don't find you on their system they should be able to tell you who currently operates the account as I think they have access to the database.

I wrongly phoned Npower just after I bought my flat thinking I had asked directory enquires for Powergen's number, anyway long story short they couldn't locate my account from my address and turned around and said the system shows Powergen are the suppliers at this property.

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
  • Call the Registration Service on 0845 3300889. They have details of which company supplies, which property in the UK. I believe they are funded by the regulator so totally impartial.
Sorry not sure of the opening times.

Hi phone energywatch with your MPAN number ask them to put it into ECOES they can tell you straight away about electric, not sure about water though.
