Norton 360 Install help

Hello All, Im new to this area of MSE and have a little problem with Norton 360.

I have a brand new HP Pavillion laptop which was bought for me for my birthday, also a copy of Norton 360. I started installing the disc and its now telling me i have to connect to the inter net to complete the process?! I dont have the internet of yet (getting it 7th May) and everyday i switch the laptop on, im getting a message saying i now need to complete installation by connecting in 14 d4 days and tomorrow will say 13 days.

Have been talking to the fellas at work who say i can plug the companies network cable into my lsaptop and complete the installation. Is that ok?

Thankyou

you could take the network cable advice, that would be ok, or you could take rdpro's, which i prefer, but i've not bought norton

I didnt realise you could get free protection software until i read some of the threads on here.
The laptop was a gift from my dad who has no clue what-so-ever on computers! He was obv dragging into buying it from Currys or PC world (where ever he got the laptop) I dont want to hurt his feelings by not installing the software as i know how much it costs, just didnt realise i had to be an internet user before i installed the bloomin thing:rolleyes:
But as long as i can plug my works netowrk cable in to fully install it, i'll be happy :)

Your company may not be happy with you plugging the machine directly into their network as there is the risk of introducing viruses (oh the irony). I imagine that you have a wireless adaptor on the laptop, can you not find a wireless hotspot, a lot of coffee shops have them now, like starbucks.

tbh, you can 'activate' Norton by phone - when it says 'connect to the internet' just let it try to connect to nothing and then it should give the option to activate by phone, and provide a contact number (at least, it used to)

I dont think i would have a virus on the laptop?! Its only been used for the first time 4 days ago and ive not got the internet, nor has the laptop ever been linked up to the internet. Thankyou everyone for your advise.

It doesn't matter if you have a virus or not your company may frown upon it. I know full well that we don't let our users plug in their own equipment as we cannot guarantee it. I would suggest a wifi hotspot as your best bet.
