Hyundai Accent 02 Reg - remove Lapbelt and replace?
Hello there.
I have a Hyundai Accent 02 reg that has a lapbelt in the rear centre. Does anyone know if I can replace this with a 3-point seat belt? I have spoken to my local Hyundai garage who simply tells me that the computer spec says "not applicable" to the centre seat belt and he does know what that means as it normally tells him yes or no....
Does anyone know if this can be done safely and correctly? If not, I am going to have to find a car with 3 x 3point seat belts.

Suggest you have a look around your area for sports car companies that can install roll cages, they will have the necessary expertise to install a fixing point for a 3-point belt (if the car doesn't already have one).0

But any modification may well not be up to MOT standards, also Insurance Company would need to be notified.0

A company that installs roll cages and 5 point harnesses for a living would almost certainly be able to fit a 3-point belt that well exceeds any MOT standard.0

It may well do, however, that doesn't mean that it will be acceptable for an MOT inspection, equally it would hardly be likely to be cost effective.0 -
I think you're overestimating the price of a belt, buckle, mounting bracket, and a bit of welding. I don't recall ever seeing an MOT tester looking at the mounting points either.0

If an MOT Tester believes that a vehicle doesn't comply with " Construction and Use " regulations, he/she may well look further, indeed they may decline to carry out an MOT at all, just not worth the risk ..0
