Buying land from council
Rottee
Hi
I own an ex council house its the end house and beside me is ground which leads round to a few garages all the garages are on council land.
The garage right next to our house we own the garage but the land the garage is on is council land. We pay rent each year for the land.
I have rang the council about buying the land and they told me there interested to sell the land and will send out someone to come and look and price the land up.
My question is does anyone have any tips or idea`s how I can get that price to be as low as I can?
Or any ideas on savings I can make buying this and.

Hi,
Buting a small piece of land may help the council - they will no longer have to maintain it. Make it clear that you want to use the land for your garden or for parking only, and it will be valued as such.
However, ths council are likley to insist on a restrictive covenenant that will prevent any building on the land, If you later change you mind and want to buld on the plot you will have to pay for the covenant to be lifted - which will be expensive.0 -
I have already told them that basically I want to knock the garage we have on the land down and move it backwards and have it rebuild and the rest of the land would be drive.0
