Another new one just appeared on Moneyfacts :

Heritable Bank 1 Yr Fixed Rate Bond 6.8%. Min balance £1,000. wef: Apr 19 2008

Monthly interest available (must be paid away) and can be opened online according to Moneyfacts.

Am struggling to find out whether they are 'full' members of the FSCS or whether a percentage is covered under the Iceland compensation scheme as with Icesave. Anyone know?

Never heard of Heritable Bank. But this is good news that despite Browns desperate attempts to save his beloved 'miracle economy', savings rates (along with mortgage rates) are still heading up.

    Never heard of Heritable Bank.

It's part of the Landsbanki group like Icesave - http://www.heritable.co.uk/aboutheritablebank/

    Yes.
Heritable Bank has Registration No. 139207.
Landsbanki Islands hf (to give them their full name) has Registration No. 207250.
Therefore, although they are all part of the same group (with some other companies), they are treated separately for FSCS (i.e. like RBS rather than HBOS).

You could also think of Heritable Bank as being the Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander
equivalent. ;) (i.e. a UK bank captured by those raiders from the Icy North ...)
Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.
