I've just tried to buy a thermometer from the states and paypal says it doesn't recognise my card, yet paypal has taken $1.00 from my account every time I've tried to buy the item:mad:

    What can I do next?

went onto amazon and bought the same item in 2 minutes, no !!!!-ups whatsoever.

E-bay and pay-pal are a load of crap

came to the conclusion many years ago unless you can clear at least £5-£10 not woth the hassle of listing on ebay , anything less sell at a carboot , or down the tip

...or a charity shop! there are few things that I would literally chuck out.

I've just started selling on ebay 2 months ago - I understood the charges but sold lots of 99pence ish stuff just to build up my feedback. As far as keeping track of what you sell/how much profit you make, set up an Excel spreadsheet and get into the habit of putting in the figures, I'm really glad I did, especially since ebay only give you the last "60 days" amounts.

the poster has nearly 2000 posts on MSE, so he probably knows his way round the forum regardless of how he found the thread

You can expect help from myself and other posters, if you have to courtesy to avoid people having to read through lots of irrelevant and very old posts.
..and not everybody on this board agrees that ebay and paypal charges are a rip off.

You can download much further back for all Paypal payments, downloads as a spreadsheet too.

Also if you're selling lots under £5 consider a micro payments account and the Paypal charges will be less.
    .
  • theres ways round it price the item low with higher postage, ive also had a lot of people contact me outside of ebay to complete the deal and ive done this quite a few times, the reason this happens is ebay as been to greedy and if the fees going to to be between 50 and a 100 pound the buyer and the seller can come to a arrangement.

i see ebay as a advertising tool more than for selling things now.
