I think I need to do some research and think about this sort of investing (hope I've got the right word!)
I only started saving (through an ISA) and increasing my pension via AVCs during the last couple of years, so still learning!

re whether to pay down the mortgage or invest a lump sum from cashing up shares and redundancy etc. My fixed rate is 4.74% so pretty good I think and I object to having to pay approx£2k fine for making an early repayment. I am looking at a fixed rate bond for a year. The sum invested will eventually go towards paying down the mortgage at the end of the fixed term so I can't afford to take any risks on it. As long as I earn more than the interest I would be saving by paying it down I think I should come out on top. But still am feeling a tad confused of the best way to go.

BTW am new to these forums but they are such interesting reads
