Direct Line insurance - hilarious, ridiculous.

Just got a quite for travel insurance from Direct Line and reading the small print I see that am covered up to a total of £1,500 for my personal belongings (seems like reasonable cover) and the single item limit is £250 (hmm ok ....) but wait - total limit for valuables is £250.

So I rang them to ask what counts as a valuable.

They said "Photographic, audio, computer, video and electrical equipment of any kind (includingCDs, Mini Discs, DVDs, TVs, electronic games, MP3 players, iPods, personal digital assistants (PDAs), video and audio tapes), telescopes, binoculars, sunglasses, glasses, spectacles, mobile phones, musical instruments, jewellery, watches, furs, leather goods, animal skins and items made of or containing gold, silver, precious metals or precious or semi-precious stones.

WOW.

So a normal person is going on holiday with a camera, iPod, sunglasses, mobile phone, perhaps some jewelery, a watch. TOTAL cover for all those is £250!

Even an electic toothbrush ("electrical equipment of any kind") and leather shoes or belts ("leather goods") count as valuables.

From the total policy cover of £1500, taking off the valuables, you are left with £1,250 to claim for what? Pants, socks, shirts and trousers!! Ridiculous...

It's true that your home contents insurance should cover for valuables when away from the home, but to offer £1,250 worth of cover for non-valuable items is hilarious.

It's probably limited because of too many fraudulent claims.
