Hi,
How long does it take before a debt collector comes knocking on your door after defaulting on a credit card?
Finding it hard to sort my problem out because not a uk citizen and live in rep. of IRL but owe 6000 on CC.
spoke with MBNA (A&L card)....they will do nothing until i default which will be this month....my min. payments have been £5....about to skyrocket....i will be on social welfare for the next 2 months and then student (full time from sept)

could be soon coz of the current economic climate.approx 3-4 months max 9 months of non payment. Frankly not worth screw..g up ur credit file if u gonna be a student..
this is serious stuff as it will impair ur future for next 6 years!!!. AFAIK.. yes u can go bankrupt and after 1 year not have to pay it back but it stays on ur file for 6 years and u will not be able to raise credit easily for 6 years.
Is it the route you want to take or maybe negotiate with MBNA(they are easy on ppl) and maybe say pay £30 or so each week or so.
Also if you stop paying or negotiating remember your debt wil be increasing at the standard rate(nowadays running to 34%p.a.) £6000 i think is peanuts (I assume u r under 25) compared to what it is going to cost u in future....:beer::beer:0
