Can anyone tell me if a company lodging a claim for bad debt is good enough reason for credit score companies to put a record against you?
I signed for an Ad to be placed with Yell.com, I cancelled with the salesman 10 days later. He said "no problem I will cancell it," but he didn't, I realised after that this would affect his commission.
The company placed the ad, and billed me for 12 months. I explained the situation to them, but they were not interested . Debt collector called and this was explained to them. They have said that my credit score is now affected as I have a bad debt.lodged against me.
Surely this is an abuse of power that an outside company can dictate what the legal situation is without any evidence? Especially as I had the right to cancel, I think you have 14 days if signed in your own home? Any comments

Did you cancel in writing and can you prove that you sent the notice to cancel? What does the contract say about canceling and failure to pay?

Al-boy, I may be wrong but I don't think the credit score companies "put" anything in their reports unless it has been lodged with them in some way. For your sake I hope this is just a threat to try and make you pay, if they really think this is such a strong case they would be putting an action into court. I would ask them which company they use, they should tell you, there are plenty of other MSE'rs who can give you good advice on this.
