Hi all,can someone help please if possible
Im on carers allowance for my son who has autismn,iv been on it for coming up to two years,i dont work and have no income but husband does, carers allowance wrote to me this week asking lots of questions such as,how much does husband earn, has he done any overtime, they want to see two years wage slips etc etc.
I wasnt aware that what I get paid a week £48 carars allowance went by what my husband earns,he earns £20,000 per year,I know if claiming for housing benefit or child tax credit etc you have to declare carers as an income but why now after 2 years am i getting a letter asking all these questions on husbands earnings.....he has earnt the same for the last few years and did overtime once in two years so nothing to hide just I dont understand.
Could anyone give me any advice if possible, thank you in advance.

I don't know the answer to your question, however my brother who is 18 was claiming carers allowance for me until he started his job full time (I'm disabled). I'm not sure why, but for some reason he had to pay back a few £hundred to them when he started his job. My brother simply could not afford to pay them back what they had asked for so they come to an agreement of £10 per week until he had paid them back.
As my brother now works full time, no one is claiming carers for me now.
It's best to phone them and get this sorted ASAP. They give you money and then later on request it back all in one. Good luck with getting this sorted.

The only reason they wold want to know about your partners earnings would be if you had child additions with the carers?
If you only have £48.65 weekly phone and ask them why they want this information as it must be a mistake.0
