Question for Gorgi Guy

What are your thoughts on Worcester Greenstar 30CDI System Boiler, and could it replace an old (very old) Ideal Concord WRS255A wall mounted boiler with minimal alteration to plumbing?Present system has flow and return from boiler to airing cupboard containing pump, cylinder and 3way valve then out to 2 pairs of manifolds feeding 10 rads all with TRVs.
Any info will be gratefully received.

    Hi

I was just shutting down. At a glance I would say yes ,but I'll look at it again tomorrow

Thanks. I forgot to ask also:- Our present boiler is in the larder with a balanced flue and an airbrick just above ground level with a half inch gap at the bottom of the door. BG keep saying that the installation is not up to current standards and should have a vent in the door. I presume this means a new boiler wouldn't be allowed in the same situation, BUT, I've seen the Gloworm Flexicom in a photo installed in a normal kitchen wall unit. Does that mean I could put one of those in the larder then with no vent in the door?

Not that you asked me, but yes you can.

P.S. Re your first query; pump is obsolete as is the header tank, system needs thorough cleansing and most people would strongly recommend the removal of the microbore.

    Hi
Maybe you could have addressed it to 'Corgis' :D

Personally I would go with a Vaillant. I consider the stainless steel heat exchanger better than the aluminium of the Worcester.
As long as the system and pipework are able sound they should withstand the increase in pressure.
As EliteHeat says a good flush is essential and I would fit a Boiler Buddy on the return pipe to the boiler.
There should be a room stat (although why a Worcester engineer said it's not a problem in Bang's thread is odd.Their own literature says one 'SHOULD' be fitted.)
An auto bypass would go in the cylinder cupboard.
Also recommended, but not essential, is a new hot water cylinder.
A Corgi will advise you about most of the above and you might not need such a large output boiler.

why a system boiler? If you use a conventional boiler you will not need to redo a lot of the pipe work. 30cdi is a physically big boiler. Will it fit in the cupboard? Try one from the Worcester Ri range.

Good afternoon: I'm not Corgi Guy either but close enough;) The Flexicom, if fitted into a cupboard or compartment, does not require ventilation openings (just don't store anything in there). More info on the Flexicom system boilers here http://www.glow-worm.co.uk/products/pdf/current/Flexicom_sx_Installer_Maunal.pdf

Thanks very much to all of you. I think I might have made a mistake in suggesting a couple of boilers and as robv points out, I maybe chose the wrong type. I did look at a conventional first but thought system sounded more appropriate
What I should have said is that if it's at all possible I would like to leave the system as is and just replace the boiler, albeit with a condensing one, in the same place, preferably without spoiling the door with a vent but that isn't a top priority.
No boiler suggested, I'll leave that to others this time.

So no recommendations then to replace my old Ideal Concord WRS255A with so as to leave the rest of the plumbing alone?

    Hi
I thought ,between all who posted, that covered just about everything.
(As much as you can over the internet anyway.)
Your individual requirements can be discussed with your installer(type of boiler, output and pipework.)
    Good luck.
