Help with MP4 player please.

Bought this product:

for a friend who was after a basic MP4 player to take away with her. She has gone to install it, and when clicking on the USB driver icon on the disc, it brings up a file but there doesn't appear to be a set up/autorun driver installation there. Now the weird thing is that this is a replacement as her 2nd one went faulty, she never got round to installing the first but I did on my pc, but now, I can't find a set up etc on either the original disc (forgot to return it with the player) or the new one. She is going away on friday and we're getting a bit stuck, apart from burning her music to disc then my copying it to my pc and transferring it to the MP4 player which is rather long-winded and time comsuming, is there anyway that we can find the drivers direct from the internet so she can just download them?

I have downloaded drivers before and don't normally have a problem, however, there is no make or anything on the player, we only have the ebuyer info to go by ie make is stage, the instuction book is well, poor to say the least - "you have problem you look at my web page" - umm, except it doesn't say where the web 'page' is!!

The disc says Digital Audio Player Driver ver:20070701

If anyone can help in any way I (and my friend) would be so grateful

Thanks in advance.

It should be just plug and play imo, what operating system are you and your friend running on?

both on XP, I've got it plugged into mine atm - so do you mean we needn't have installed the discs? (onto mine at least!)

Go to My Computer, has it been detected on there as another drive?

  • From what I can remember you don't need drivers for this player under xp or vista and the disk doesn't contain them (it contains conversion software to convert films to the correct format). There should be an option in the menu of the player which says usb this needs to be on for the player to be recognised by the pc.

on mine, it is showing as removable device (i), and the disc is showing as driver (g). On hers, it doesn't show as a removable device (I dont think anyway from memory) and although the disc is there on hers, when you click on it, it brings all the icons up but as I said, if you click on USB driver, there are just read only files and no setup.

Removable device is the player, thats connected, as these are plug and play devices they don't need drivers to run, they will show as removable devices, you simply just drag and drop the mp3s onto them.

You won't need the disc. Tell your mate to try it so see if it shows up on hers as removable drive.

Lol hopefully she enjoys your music, a few tips if it still don't work:

    1) Try it out in all her USB ports, sometimes it may not work in 1 usb port but may work in another!
    2) Reformat the player then try perhaps,
    3) Connect the drive, then go to My Computer, Right click select properties, Click on Hardware Tab, then press device manager, see if something called "unknown devices" comes up in the list, if it does then the computer is having problems recognizing the player, right click on the unknown device if it does come up, then click on properties, then driver, then update driver, put disc in the computer, and search for the driver, it may find the driver file, it won't always be a program file i.e .exe file, and that may find the driver on the disc and update it. This may sound confusing but its really easy.

    Hope that helps!

Just to update - I took it up, plugged it into another USB port and we were away and sailing lol, thanks so much, can't believe I never thought of that especially as my bluetooth will only work on one of my ports and not the others so I should have realised. x
