Help Please - IO_ERR_BAD_BLOCK

My event logs is showing several errors as follow
Windows Operating SystemID:7Source:DiskVersion:5.2Symbolic Name:IO_ERR_BAD_BLOCKMessage:The device, %1, has a bad block.
I was working on a spreadsheet at that time and when going in to print preview I also had the message "out of memory save or close any open files or applications"
Are these two errors connected and can anyone advvise me on how to rectify the problems?
Thanks

They are possibly related. Goto start, run and type in cmd and hit ok, in the dos window that comes in type
    chkdsk /f/v/r
When you press enter it will give you a message about doing the check on reboot. Hit y for yes.
Then reboot and allow the chkdsk to do its thing, this is a very thorough test and will take a while to run.
