Dry Lining costs?

Can anyone give me an idea of how much dry lining costs.
We have a utility room that is partially built into a hillside, and damp seeps in through the back wall (as there is earth against the wall above the DPC  ).

We're talking about a breezeblock wall approx 2m x 2m, and a concrete floor if that makes any difference.
Why pay more than you have to?

  • Hi squirrelz,

If you do it your self it will cost less than £40

    2 sheets of plasterboard
    1 bag of drywall adhesive
    scrim tape for joints
    Board finish

It is very easy to do, you can ither attach the boards with dry wall adhesive or you can attach battens to the wall and then attach the plasterboard to the battens.

If you get someone to do it you will be looking at £100+

Just been told I have my terminology wrong. It needs tanking not dry lining.

It sounds an awkward job, and it will probably be easier to dig out the ground behind, and create an air gap.

  • Nevermind lol,

Tanking is more expensive and more difficult to do!

You would be better digging out the other side of the wall if you can?

There are many different ways to "tank", one of which can be done with asphalt. I once priced this up and it was about £50 per square meter. In the end I rendered the wall with sand and cement, containing a waterproofing agent and then painted it with a few coats of Bitumen. If you throw dry sand at the wet bitumen you can then plaster on top of it!

    Worked for me!
