i have rang them up out of warranty and asked to cancel as the box is broke and they asked if i would stay if they fixed the box free which i agreed to .. worth a call, but sound convincing that you are prepared to cancell.
  • Did the same earlier this year, threatened to cancel as box not working correctly, initially Sky offered to send an engineer at full price, said that was too much they offered to "meet me 1/2 way", still said it was too much and would be considering freeview, Sky then offered the services of an engineer for nothing "as I had been such a good customer". Engineer didn't even look at my old digibox, just replaced it with a nice shiny new one and also replaced LNB.
  • i read on this site yesterday sky+ for £49 (recon box).

try ebay you can get them for around £20
  • What annoys me with Sky boxes is that when I had my upgraded years ago to digital it states in the Contract that the equipment belongs to Sky. They own it so they should pay for the repairs!

Telephone them to disconnect and they will ask why. Whilst complaining mention your box was very slow when using Sky interactive and crashed a lot etc. I did this and they gave me a new box. I have since cancelled again and they keep sending leaflets through the post offering so many months at half price or a free new installation.

right result- gutted about being "offered" sky+ for £199, but as i've been a "good customer" (must have blagged for 3 months half price 4 times now!)
theyve waived the £65 pound fee for the engineer, whos going to replace the box and ariel if need be asap!!

I did the same thing a few years ago. My old sky box broke. Rang them, they wanted £xx for a new box.

Thought about it and phoned them back the next day - Said I wanted to cancel my subscription totally. They put me throught to someone else, and I had the half-price engineer "deal". I had to pay £30.

When the engineer called, he was disquisted (with Sky). He said we should have signed my Wife up as a new subscriber, on the website and just paid £1 (as it was then), but I am sure it is per address, not per person.

The reason I didnt see why I had to pay for a new box is someone at work pointed this out - When you take out a mobile on a contract, part of that monthly amount pays for the phone. Why is sky any different. I said this to the lady on the phone, that is when I got transferred and offered the half price call out.

    Rant over !!
