New Barclaycard and Pin number all in one post ..

<sarcasm>
I'd like to thank Barclaycard for sending my new Chip & Pin card.

I'd also like to express my gratitude for them sending the Pin number at exactly the same time. It was a wonderful, security-affirming experience to know they're looking after my card and security so well.

A letter of thanks wings its way to reward you.

Is it possible that they were sent a couple of days apart and that somehow they managed to end up ni the same post? Usually the computerised systems used (I don't know Barclays but I have come across others) send out the card and then create a 'scheduled entry' to automatically send out the PIN a couple of days later.

I would be surpirsed if they were issued in the same run ... especially since many systems use all sorts of mailsort and walksort algorithms to put entires going to the same address into the same envelope thereby minimising postal costs (substantial savings).

Guess what? In August 2004, when they started their big 12 months 0% offer........

.....the same thing happened to me!

I didn't worry about it - it would have been their loss had it been misused.
  • I had to activate my card and when I phoned their 0845 'local rate' number which isn't actually charged at local rate, all they asked for was my full name, address, postcode, and card number.

All these details were in the mailing with the card enclosed, so what was stopping anyone calling to 'activate' my card?

Barclaycard are not the smartest. I was 'accosted' by one of their street traders the other day. "0% balance transfer" was the opener.

"But don't you charge a balance transfer fee?" I asked.

"Well, yes, 2%" was the reply.

"So 0% balance transfer is not really true then. You're really charging 2%" I said.

"Name a card that doesn't" was the aggressive reply.

I named Virgin and NatWest (I'd been reading the 15/8/05 MSE update) and walked away smiling.
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").
