Sedona he will like that its a lovely place with all the red rocks and woded canyons you pass through from Flagstaff on. Would love to go back there and stay over last time i just passed through ..wonderful place .. and worth a look at. This train i am doing as a side step from Vegas for a day or two.. got to spend my winnings some how eh..oh just got to win first though thats the snag but i usually do ok on the roulette when there.

Am thinking of doing a helicopter trip too not decided yet but i do fancy a fly over as well.

Where else you going to visit?

We're just passing through Sedona & Flagstaff on our way to Cottonwood, where we are staying for a couple of days only. I don't want to do a thread hijack, so here is the trip that we are taking
BTW, I can't recommend the helicoptor trip over the Grand Canyon highly enough. We went with looktours and did this trip. Not cheap, but the memories live to this day :j:j

How do you get 'there is a train service from LA via Williams Arizona to the Grand Canyon ?'
Williams is over 400 mile from LA ! (although it looks like a great trip to take )

The train from LA to Chicago (the South West Chief) passes through Williams. You change there for the Grand Canyon Railroad.

It doesn't go through Las Vegas.

You're absolutely right. I got hung up on the Las Vegas part of the post and missed relevance of the reference to Williams.

    Sorry about that :o

You also mentioned visiting San Francisco. The line between LA and SFO offers one of the great railway journeys of the world, but be aware that it takes a long time: Amtrak trains are luxurious rather than fast, and the distance involved is only a little less than Lands End to John o' Groats.

To use Amtrak without paying a fortune, you must either book well in advance or invest in a rail pass. Study their site for details.

I've got to agree with Voyager2002 here, the run down the Big Sur is truly special.
Pricewise, a single from close to SFO (trains don't actually go to SFO) to LAX is about £30 and the trip takes about (a very relaxing) 11 hours.
