BASICPOWER 35% increase for Electric
Options
From November 10th BasicPower putting up my electric from 4.34 to 6.30 (inc VAT) increase of 35% for day units, and from 2.40 to 3.15 for night units, increase of 31%. They have also increased std chg from 19.43 p / day to 23.0p / day (an extra £13 / year).
This is total unacceptable and I already decided to switch.
I suspect that the comparison web-sites are not showing this yet so BEWARE if BasicPower looks cheapest anywhere.

I have been notified of simliar price increases from Basicpower
. In the North West increases are about 20% to 25% on Economy 7 >:(.
In my terms and conditions, condition 7.1 says if you inform Basicpower in writing within 14 days of receiving the notification of price change that you wish to terminate the contract then the price change will not apply to you.So, get a move on, inform them and switch to a cheaper supplier. In my case Virgin Home Energy saves me 19% compared to the new Basicpower prices
.

I've been following the Staywarm threads and decided that they will be the best deal for me (one of us is over 60). The quote was for £61 per month which is just a little less than it would have been with our old suppliers. Given that I can now use as much energy as I like (within reason - both Gas and Electric) it looks like a good deal since the cost is FIXED for 12 months. No problem to switch again in a years time if the renewal rate is much higher.
we have 3 bed - 2 people in East Mids region - current usage 7700kwh elec - 15500kwh for gas. Couple of suppliers would be a bit cheaper but no price fix or unlimited use.0 -
legin, just how I think, totally agree. The moving finger, having writ, moved on.0

It doesn't matter what they think registering means.
If the Ts & Cs say "notify us in writing" that's all you have to do.0 -
Yep. That's what I thought
. I bet their next move will be that as the bill is under dispute I can not transfer until it is sorted or something like that. This switching is surpose to be easy but these companies seam to make it difficult to put us off I think.
No reply from Basicpower yet. Wonder how long it will take.Regards

legin,
I have pm you about Basicpower.Regards

Update on above posts. Basicpower have finally emailed me to say the price increase will not apply for the period of the transfer
. Persistence pays, especially when you know you are right
.
Only problem now, having switched to cheaper supplier Virgin Energy in November and who had increased prices in September they now trade under EDF who announced price increase from 17 January. Effectively two price increases in 5 months.
So as fast as we switch supplier they increase prices. Is this a deliberate strategy I wonder to counter customers switching ??? In the end you feel you just can not win so give up.Regards
