Go look around at a few rentals and see what's about. Pets and stuff are a problem for LL.
My illegal cats got rumbled during inspection day yesterday too.:o
The inspections are a pain.....
Call me naive but what's wrong with having pets? As long as the tenant signs a seperate agreement to fix whatever the pets wrecked and pledges to ensure the house is free from pet smells when they leave, I can't see that being a problem.Tough times never last longer than tough people.0 -
I don't get it either. Our tenants seem to have an illegal ladrador (it's her mums and she looks after it sometimes is the story)owitemisermusa wrote: »Call me naive but what's wrong with having pets? OH went into do a couple of repairs (and I was frantic about my real maple floors.....this was last year...I am more balanced with things now.
)
House was fine, no doggy smell and no skating, claw marks on maple floors.
Likewise, Letting agent (as Ginger charged into the house as she opened the door) said ' oh we al love cats in the office' as I was pathetically saying 'Oh, look neighbours cat just ran in' and he sat in the kitchen where his bowl usually is. Then the other sauntered in too.
She could see there was no 'cat damage'.0 -
We sadly had to rehome our dog due to this. We lived with relatives for 7 months trying to find a LL that would accept him. Unfortunately we ccouldn't and with a toddler and one on the way we had to admit defeat

If I am ever in the position to have property for rent having pets will be a requirement lol0 -
What about taking on a volunteer role commensurate with your abilities? Perhaps a Community School Governor? Regain self motivation and pride in what you do but also monopolising on your major gain - freedom to choose.
Can I say, well done for escaping the modern world and all it's awful attributes.
Because I don't know anything about volunteer roles. I did look once where I lived and they didn't have any.
I don't know what a community school governor is, but it sounds like it involves children... and I don't really get on with them at all.
Maybe I should mention that one of the things I found out about myself is, I have Aspergers. Which suddenly put everything into perspective... I found out why I think like I do and why I shun society and social events/gatherings or scenarios.
I just like to beaver away in the background of technical departments, doing a damned good job, without unnecessary chitter chatter.0 -
it doesnt involve working with children directly but you do need to care for children and their education. For your description of your condition it does need socialization and meetings so not necessarily suitable.0

You do a great volunteer role on here anyway.....always able to offer advice on all sorts of subjects.PasturesNew wrote: »Because I don't know anything about volunteer roles. I did look once where I lived and they didn't have any.

It's great that you do have the time to do this.

Thanks
But I am obsessed here... can't put it down.
I should be doing other things
I have my own website and forum ... well, it WOULD have a forum if only I hadn't been caught up here
oops!0 -
So what? I would be too if real life didn't butt in all the time.
It's just a moment in time anyway..who knows what the next obsession will be?
Gardening consumed my life for 3 years once (as a hobby) and now my tenants have turned it into a jungle.
This way of communicating is great for you too (with the Aspergers)...we all need a bit of human interaction.
At some point things like CAB may go on-line too...so offering advice like on here (but with one to one pro advisors) as well as face to face.
In fact, that's a good idea..wonder if anyone is doing something like that?0 -
I did go to the CAB once. I wanted to learn/train to be a debt advisor and went there to volunteer, thinking I might be able to work up to that after 3-4 years or so. But the office was only open a couple of hours/week, during office hours, so not possible. So what? I would be too if real life didn't butt in all the time.

Could look at it again, I love numbers. And solving problems. And thinking laterally.
Might give it another go.
That's the beauty of STR ... it might be the way for many people to finally achieve financial independence to do what they want to do. When you are the sole breadwinner in a 1-person household, it's very expensive, you have to wholly rely on your own efforts and decisions in every aspect of your life and you are personally financially responsible for getting the bills paid. No time or money to do anything else most of the time.
So, STR ... and learn a new skill is a good option.0 -
The DFW is so busy all the time too. Immoral angel is training at the moment. She has a thread going on it I have to go to bed now so haven't time to find it. DFW needs as many people with spare time as possible to help. Worth a look at the thread.0
