fitting wooden venetian blinds

I want to put wooden venetian blinds at the front of my house. Following the advice of you guys I've decided to order from www.interiordecordirect.co.uk.

Are they easy to fit?

I'll have to do them myself as OH 'doesn't do diy'

I want them to be inside the recess which is wood lined. How do they fit? Is it a bracket fitted to the top of the recess and they fit on to it or is there some wierd and wonderful trick to it? :D

Thanks in anticipation :T

    Hi Rockie4
Fitting them should be easy as the brackets will attach to the wood at the top of the recess - the rawl plugs and fittings are all included.
    Good luck!

In general wood blinds are the same... if you buy frim IKEA they need trimming, if custom made they will be expensive. Brackets are generally standard and can be fitted vertically to the recess or horizoltally into the plaster. In both cases though the surrounding areas can be very soft plaster and take care to drill slowly at first. If you have to cut down widths or remove vanes (too long), it's logical, but lay them out on the floor to do.
15 years as a blind fitter, and venetians in general are still a pain, specially when fitting to a bay or victortan conservatiory. Oh by the way, allow the blinds to sit proud of the window handles on PVC frames, nothing more annoying than hitting the handles on the way up or down. PPS the centre bracket (essential to take the weight), does not always fit right in the middle and often has to be set one side of the central cords.... good luck ;->

After having blinds in many properties including venetians of both wood and metal I would advise against getting them. Firstly they are notorious dust harbourers and a pain in the !!! to clean. Secondly they - especially wooden take away a LOT of light. Thirdly expensive to buy made to measure and can be awkward to fit and a pain if have to cut down.

We now have Verticals in the living area and bedroom. No dust - more light, same privacy.

Have just ordered some faux suede Blackout Verticals from Blinds247 off Ebay for the bedroom. Haven't arrived yet but their CS has been great so far. Free samples. Made 2 measure and price is £64 delivered for up 2 6' any drop. Their Ebay shop is a LOT cheaper than their website and offers on multiples.

Just my opinion - venitians are more hassle than worth.

    Cheers

As to fitting blinds the problem isn't going to be "weak plaster" but more likely reinforced concrete which lintels - the area usually round openings like windows - will be.

You will need a decent hammer drill with a sharp bit. We have an 8' lounge window with verticals and all the brackets need is 6 screw holes.

BTW Venetians will only work up to 3 - 4' max. Anything more they look rubbish and will require constant cleaning.

It is just my experience and I know people think that verticals can look "clinical or old fashioned" there are many new fabric choices - 100s and I personally think they look a lot more modern. Each 2 there own
