hi for the 3 years that we have had an egg card we have never had a direct debit, we usually pay online using the one off payment method and transfer from our bank account, i have just noticed that they have set up a direct debit in my account and just wondered if they can do this without even asking\telling me, not bothered that there is a dd set up, just find it a bit allarming that companies can do this.

Do you not need to set it up and when you do that means that you are agreeing to the DD terms etc...?

Egg don't operate without a DD.
You must at some stage have given them your bank account details otherwise they would have been unable to set it up.
My suspicion is that you haev agreed without realising.
I belive they do everything on line without letters.
Can you honestly say you read all the terms and conditions?
Personally I didn't and suspect that most people don't.
I'm pretty sure you have agreed.0 -
I didn't think it possible to apply for an Egg Card without setting up a DD. After all, the fact that they insist on it is one of the reasons the OFT haven't challenged Egg's £16 default fees (when everyone else moved to £12).
Is it possible that you set up a DD when you applied 3 years ago (and have since forgotten)?
DDI's lapse if not used for 13 months/400 days. Maybe Egg set it up again for you electronically under AUDDIS, for your own protection (as well as their own!) in case you forgot to pay.
I suppose though, only Egg will be able to answer your question. Do you plan to ask them?0 -
maybe your correct had some weird goings on with them, they closed the account in jan and didnt know why they did it so now its been reopened. maybe i did have a dd when i first opened the account an they have set it up again, thanks all0
